Nominations invited for SAARC Award 2009
Nominations are invited, in English, from individuals and
organisations from the Member States of SAARC for the SAARC Award 2009.
The aim of the award is to honour individual citizens and
organisations of South Asia for their exemplary work to promote peace,
understanding, friendship and development in the region.
The award which consists of a citation, a gold medal and cash prize
of US$ 25,000 is conferred at SAARC Summits.
The objectives of the SAARC Award are:
To encourage individuals and organisations based in South Asia to
undertake programs and activities complementing and supplementing the
efforts of SAARC;
To honour outstanding contributions and achievements of individuals
and organisation of the region in the fields of peace, development,
social service, poverty alleviation, environment protection, cultural
progress and in other agreed areas of regional co-operation; and
To recognize any other outstanding achievements, not covered above,
of individuals and organisations in the region whose work or
contribution has benefited or inspired the region.
The last date for receipt of nominations for the SAARC Award 2009 is
October 10, 2009.
