Students hit by 'mystery' disease

Twelve students from the Diwulana Muslim Maha Vidyalaya, Polonnaruwa were admitted to Polonnaruwa hospital during the last two days with respiratory and excessive cough problems.

Hospital doctors have not yet identified these symptoms as something epidemic and the students admitted are undergoing the normal treatment as their condition is not critical.

Meanwhile, their blood samples have been sent to the Medical Research Unit, Colombo for further investigations.

Once the investigation results are received, we will be able to establish the type of disease has affected them, the Director of the Polonnaruwa hospital said.
