Cancer Hospital nurses give up TU action

A group of nurses attached to the Cancer Hospital, Maharagama who were engaged in trade union action during the past few days, have abandoned their campaign and expressed cooperation to maintain the hospital's routine activities.

The Health Ministry in a release said it was able to continue the chemotherapy treatment on cancer patients with the help of the Army and Navy Medical Units despite the trade union action launched by these nurses.

The Health Ministry has acceded to all demands except one forwarded by these nurses. However, their main demand of risk allowance couldn't be implemented under the present circumstance.

However, normal activities of the hospital including chemotherapy treatment have returned to normal, hospital Director Dr. Sulochana Yoganathan said.
