Citing examples from Bahrain and Japan, he said that the secret of
their success is the developed service sector. “Japan is the third
largest economy in the world and its service sector is vibrant and
active similar to Bahrain. Their service sector contributes
significantly to the economic growth. We must take the cue from them,”
he said.
“We are at a decisive juncture. The most important aspect is to
develop the economy. It is important to modernize our service sector and
introduce the latest technology. The electronic money order system will
reach cash fast to the recipients without complication and with minimum
waste. It will benefit people using the postal service,” he said.
Since the first postal transaction in 1873, the postal service has
incorporated modern features to upgrade its services. The e-money order
system will be a boost to its services where efficiency will improve. It
would offer people a friendly service, said Post Master General M.K.B.
Dissanayake.
The Money Order Management System will link 641 post offices
initially with plans to link over 3,500 sub post offices in the near
future. The service will transfer money fast and there will be no change
in the commission charged. The software for the system was developed by
the Engineering Faculty of the Moratuwa University. |
