Police curfew in Beruwela

A police curfew was imposed yesterday in parts of Beruwela to prevent a re-occurrence of the clash which occurred between two Muslim groups in the area late on Friday night.

Police while claiming the situation had been brought under control said the curfew was intended to keep rival sections at bay until an amicable settlement is brought between the two groups. Two persons were reported to be killed and nine others injured in the clash between the two rival Muslim factions in Beruwela late Friday night. A mosque in the area too was set on fire following the clash.
