One Sri Lanka and three meet records set up

One new Sri Lanka record and three new meet records were established in the 27th Women's Athletic Championships which concluded at the Sugathadasa Stadium, yesterday.

W.K.L.A. Nimali who hails from the rural village of Suriyawewa. set a new Sri Lanka record in the women's 3000 metres Steeplechase event She finished the event in 11:01.08 seconds. Recently she joined Sri Lanka Air Force. (She broke her previous record of 11:19.44 sec)

A.S. Lakshika Silva (Madurankuliya) in the Under 16 Girls Javelin Throw Event recorded 36.06 Metres. M.N.D. Muthunayaka (S.L. Navy) in the Shot Putt Women's final cleared 13.64 metres, and R.K.A.P. Madumanthi (Kurunegala D.A.A) in the Women's High Jump event jumped 1.77 metres establishing three new meet records at the 27th Women's Athletic Championships. Six Challenge Trophies were presented by the Committee of the Athletic Association of Sri Lanka to the Most Outstanding Athletes of the six age categories.
