President, commanders felicitated

Special mementos to President, service chiefs :

The Maha Sangha and the people in the Uva Province on Saturday felicitated President Mahinda Rajapaksa, Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa and Tri Forces Commanders who liberated the country from the scourge of terrorism at the historical Mahiyangana Raja Maha Viharaya.

The Maha Sangha and the people in their thousands flocked to the Mahiyangana Raja Maha Viharaya premises to salute the great warriors of the nation who crushed the LTTE terrorists, who killed thousands of innocent civilians for over 30 years.

Maha Nayake of the Asgiriya Chapter Most Ven Udugama Buddharakhitha Thera presented special mementos to the President in recognition of his invaluable service to the country of eradicating terrorism which had stifled the country’s development for more than 30 years.

The Maha Nayake thera also presented mementos to the Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa, Former Chief of Defence Staff Air Vice Marshal Donald Perera, former Army Commander General Sarath Fonseka, Former Navy Commander Admiral Wasantha Karannagoda, Air Force Chief Air Chief Marshal Roshan Gunathilake, Inspector General of Police Jayantha Wickremaratne and Civil Defence Force Chief Rear Admiral Sarath Weerasekera.

Anu Nayake of the Siyam Maha Nikayaka Most Ven Galagama Attadassi Thera, Chief Incumbent of the Kirivehera Rajamaha Viharaya Dr. Aluthwewa Soratha Thera, Health Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva, Agriculture and Agrarian Services Development Minister Maithreepala Sirisena and Education Minister Susil Premajayanth were also present.
