Environment Ministry to look into problems of Adhivasi community

President Mahinda Rajapaksa has instructed officials to seek the
intervention of the Ministry of Environment when finding solutions to
the problems faced by Adhivasis in the area of their cultural and
development matters.
The President made these instructions at Mahiyangana on Saturday
(18/07) when representatives of Adhavasis met the President to discuss
their problems.
The President also contacted officials concerned over the phone and
took steps to find solutions to their problems. At this meeting
President Mahinda Rajapaksa also emphasised the need to build a close
rapport with the people living along the coastal belt in the East.
The President also partook of a traditional meal presented by the
Adhivasis for the first time. This meal consisted manioc kurakkan
thalapa and rotti and gravy made out of cereals.
Adhivasi leader Uruwarige Wannialaththo led the group of the veddha
people. |
