Only skilled technicians to SLTB
Irangika Range
Transport Minister Dullas Alahapperuma has taken a policy decision to
recruit technicians who completed a full time four year training course
in the German Training School in Katubedda to the Sri Lanka Transport
Board.
Technicians who passed out from the German Training School had not
been recruited to the Sri Lanka Transport Board for the past 31 years.
Therefore, the Minister has regularized the recruitment procedure for
technicians who completed a full time four year training course at the
German Training School in Katubedda.
There was a proper recruitment procedure to recruit technicians
passed out from the German Training School to the SLTB until 1978. But,
this methodology was suspended due to several decisions taken by the
previous regime.
On October 03, 2007, the German Training School was again taken over
by the Transport Ministry. Accordingly, following the new
regularizations, Minister Alahapperuma handed over letters of
appointments to 24 technicians passed out from the German Training
School to the SLTB at a ceremony held in Colombo recently.
They will be deployed to the several depots in Colombo area. The
Minister said there are 1900 unskilled technicians across the country
and most of them had been recruited to the SLTB without following a
proper procedure after 1978.
Meanwhile, the Minister emphasized that technicians who completed a
full time four year training course in the German Training School in
Katubedda and German Railway Training School in Ratmalana will be
recruited to SLTB and the Sri Lanka Railways and no appointment will be
made to the post of technician on the political influences hereafter. |
