The government is fully committed to the ‘Battle for Prosperity’ of
the motherland for which cause all State officials, heads of departments
together with the public should essentially travail wholly and truly,
said Presidential Senior Advisor, Parliamentarian Basil Rajapaksa
speaking at the special meeting held to discuss the Galle District
Development Plan and to review its progress, held at the Hall De Galle
in Galle.
A large number of higher officials of government departments and
institutions in association with prominent political leaders of the
district participated at the meeting.
“The government strategy for the Battle for Prosperity is to form
potent rural households in order to develop the village and thereby
ushering prosperity to the entire nation. We are highly optimistic over
the success of this integrated development project launched with the
active involvement and participation of state officials and general
public.
The government has already completed 95 percent of the work on
electrification of the Galle district and we will accomplish the entire
project very soon for which Rs. 80 million has already been allocated,
he added.
With the reputed victory over ruthless terrorism, we have been able
to regain the control and dominion over 2/3 of Sri Lankan waters and 1/3
of the country’s soil of which the State mastery had been lost for over
three decades.
However now we can formulate development programs covering the entire
country for which utmost dedication and devotion of State officials and
the public is seriously essential, he said.
At the meeting a thorough overall discussion and review of the
district’s development projects in every field were carried out. Special
attention was paid to the Galle City Development plan.

Province Governor Kumari Balasooriya, Vocational and Technical Training
Minister Piyasena Gamage, Nation Building Minister Gunarathne Weerakoon,
