Road temporary closed due to landslide

A part of the Hatton - Avissawella road has been temporarily closed for vehicular traffic due to a landslide which occurred around the 68th milepost.

Motorists coming to Colombo from Nuwara Eliya have been advised to use Nuwara Eliya - Ramboda road and also use Nuwara Eliya - Peradeniya road through Gampola.

However, according to Nuwara Eliya District Secretary G.G. Kumarasiri authorities are working on a temporary alternative road near the 68th milepost which would avoid the affected area and could come into use by afternoon today.

In the meantime, vehicles plying from Hatton to Kandy are advised to change course and come via Vanaraja, Dickoya, Norton Bridge to Diyagala junction.

Vehicles travelling from Talawakele to Kandy have been advised to make use of the road running through Dimbulapathana.

According to authorities both local and foreign tourists visiting the Nuwara Eliya area too has been alerted on the prevailing conditions and have being advised to change their travel routes accordingly.
