Wesley records eighth win

The Schools Under-20 Division One Segment 'B' Title is within the grasp of Wesley College, Colombo as they powered their way to their eighth successive win when they trounced Vidyartha College by 41 points (5 goals, 2 penalties) to 6 (1 penalty, 1 drop goal) in their Schools Under-20 tournament match played at the Nittawela Rugby Stadium in Kandy yesterday. At lemons Wesley led 27-3.

Wesley took an early lead when stand off Dulaj Perera fired a penalty but soon Vidyartha equalized through a 30-metre put over by flanker R.M.S. Galkotuwa.

In the 15th minute, centre Azmil Omar put them through a good try scored mid left which was goalled by stand off Dulaj Perera.

Seven minutes later, a good three quarter movement saw winger Pathum Peiris going over by the left post. Dulaj Perera added the extra points. In the 29th minute, a forwards charge resulted in flanker Randhika Tillakaratne making a powerful run to touch down by mid right. The new reliable stand off Dulaj Perera made no mistake with the kick at goal.

Minutes before the short break Dulaj Perera knocked over a 35-metre penalty to put Wesley in a commanding position leading 27-3.

Vidyartha came into the game briefly after the short break by taking play into their opponents territory but their moves did not have the required finish.

In the 20th minute, Zaliq Jayah put the issue beyond doubt when he scored off a second phase move. Dulaj Perera added the extra points bringing his tally in the match to 16 points.

In the final minutes of play, Vidyartha's A.M.S. Seneviratne executed a drop goal to reduce the lead. Y.M.S. Ratnayake refereed.
