The Moneragala District is ready for the Uva Provincial Council election scheduled to be held on August 8, Government Agent/ District Secretariat J. G. A. Ratnasiri said.

He said that he being the Returning Officer in the district, he was optimistic that the election can be held in a free and fair manner with all political parties united.

“Not a single incident of election violence has being reported in the district upto date,” he said.

Ratnasiri said they were preparing for the election and all the Government institutions were working hard for the polls to select 11 Provincial Councillors for the district.

Moneragala District Assistant Election Commissioner K. J. G. Madhawa said there are over 300,642 registered voters in the district.

Nine political parties and three independent groups are in the fray for the election, he said.

Madawa said there will be 307 polling booths and 25 counting stations.

Over 1,000 are eligible for postal voting in the district, he said.
