The proposed new housing development program of the National Housing Development Authority. (NHDA) to be implemented in North under the Uthuru Wasanthaya 180 day accelerated development program commenced on June 24 in Pallimunai in the Mannar district.

The new houses will be built with a financial assistance of Rs. 325,000 per family and will be given to 50 displaced fisheries families due to conflicts in Mannar district, and now living in temporary houses.

This Housing Development program will be implemented under the directions of Special Task Force for accelerated Northern development headed by Senior Presidential Advisor Basil Rajapaksa MP under the supervision of Housing and Common Amenities Minister Ferial Ashraff.

This program was inaugurated by laying foundation stones for several houses. The NHDA has planned to complete the development program of Pallimunai village within a period of 100 days.

Mannar, District Secretary Nicholes Pillai said the benefits of the Uthuru Wasanthaya program will be given to the other parts of the districts of the North as well as district of Mannar.

He said implementation of a accelerated housing development program under the Uturu Wasnathaya program is an important event.

"This development program has been anticipated for a long time by the people of Mannar. Every one should contribute to make this program a success and specially those who need houses should participate in this program.

The Government too expects such a successful development program" he said. General Manager, NHDA L.S. Palansooriya said the NHDA has been assigned a special task to provide housing facilities to displaced people of North under the Uthuru Wasnathaya National Development Program.

The National Housing Development Authority will carry out this task to provide permanent houses for displaced persons who are now in temporary houses.
