50 families to benefit:
New houses for Pallimunai village
The proposed new housing development program of the National Housing
Development Authority. (NHDA) to be implemented in North under the
Uthuru Wasanthaya 180 day accelerated development program commenced on
June 24 in Pallimunai in the Mannar district.
The new houses will be built with a financial assistance of Rs.
325,000 per family and will be given to 50 displaced fisheries families
due to conflicts in Mannar district, and now living in temporary houses.
This Housing Development program will be implemented under the
directions of Special Task Force for accelerated Northern development
headed by Senior Presidential Advisor Basil Rajapaksa MP under the
supervision of Housing and Common Amenities Minister Ferial Ashraff.
This program was inaugurated by laying foundation stones for several
houses. The NHDA has planned to complete the development program of
Pallimunai village within a period of 100 days.
Mannar, District Secretary Nicholes Pillai said the benefits of the
Uthuru Wasanthaya program will be given to the other parts of the
districts of the North as well as district of Mannar.
He said implementation of a accelerated housing development program
under the Uturu Wasnathaya program is an important event.
"This development program has been anticipated for a long time by the
people of Mannar. Every one should contribute to make this program a
success and specially those who need houses should participate in this
program.
The Government too expects such a successful development program" he
said. General Manager, NHDA L.S. Palansooriya said the NHDA has been
assigned a special task to provide housing facilities to displaced
people of North under the Uthuru Wasnathaya National Development
Program.
The National Housing Development Authority will carry out this task
to provide permanent houses for displaced persons who are now in
temporary houses.
NHDA has identified suitable families for the housing project at
Pallimunai according to the Uthuru Wasanthaya housing program.
Financial assistance and technical know-how is given to commence
construction of houses.
The NHDA has made arrangements to supply building materials to the
relevant site and the recipient of the houses will be involved in making
building materials. The labour requirement will be met by the members of
the beneficiary families.
