Initiatives have been taken by the Examinations Department to assist
displaced candidates by having seven examination centres for the G.C.E.
Advanced Level Examination at seven IDP centres in Vavuniya, the
Examination Commissioner Anura Edirisinghe told the Daily News.
According to the Examination Department sources nearly 900 students
are qualified for the Advance Level Examination which commenced in
August.
"Advanced Level examination centres will be established in IDP Zone
0,1,2,3,4,5,6. amounting to seven. This process will benefit 856
students in IDP centres," he said.
He said the Examinations Department will take steps to issue special
identity cards for the examination only for those who haven't received
their National Identity Cards yet. Examination Department officials will
visit the IDP centres and identify the needy students while fulfilling
all requirements such as taking student photographs.
"At the same time the Examinations Department has noticed a scarcity
of furniture and moves are under way to send furniture which is required
for the Examination Centres by July 11," the Commissioner said.
In addition, the Examinations Department has taken measures to
distribute past examination papers and model examination papers among
the students to enable them to have an idea about the real examination
paper.
"With the help of the past and model examination papers, students
will be able to face the examination with confidence," Commissioner of
Education Publications Pushpa Kumara said.
He further said that the Examinations Department has planned to
appoint teachers in IDP centres as invigilators at the examination. The
Examinations Department has identified that these teachers are a
resource and therefore the Department will hold talks with the Security
Forces for getting the approval in this regard.
