Moussakele reservoir at spill level

Police warned residents of Avissawella, Kithulgala, Yatiyantota and Hanwella to be vigilant as the Moussakele reservoir has reached spill level.

Police Spokesman SSP Ranjith Gunasekera said that the Moussakele reservoir has reached spill level due to heavy rains.

"Since the reservoir is at spill level, its sluice gates ought to be opened," he told the Daily News.

He said if the Moussakele reservoir's sluice gates are opened the water level of the Kelani river could rise. This could affect the residents living in Avissawella, Kithulgala, Yatiyantota and Hanwella.

"Therefore, we urge residents living in these areas to be vigilant and take extra precaution due to continuing heavy rains," he added.
