Sri Lankan Racing Driver Dilantha Malagamuwa became the first Lankan
driver to win three events in a space of two days at the Sepang F1
Circuit winning the Aston Martin Asia Cup Round 5 and 6 with comfortable
ease. With these two wins he takes a comfortable lead to go for the
overall championship. His followers Mark Williamson and Simon Waters are
far behind and Dilantha is sure of the championship this year.
He was greatly supported by his engineer the Englishman Steve and his
crew who prepared a vehicle to have a two good runs.
Following his two victories Dilantha was competing in the GT4 class
along with GT3 racers on the same circuit. In the first race he had to
pull out of the race when his car spinned while avoiding an accident but
the vehicle hit the bars and was badly damaged and he too suffered an
injury to his right hand during the Round 7 of this class.
Never say die Dilantha made it a point to compete in the following
Round 8 race with his crew doing the hard work to put the car in proper
condition. He had to start from the back of the grid (22) in this event.
The more powerful cars in GT3 sped away as these driver had 500 hp cars.
Dilantha who had a good start kept morning smoothly and manage go
past few GT3 drivers to reach the seventh position after the completion
of five laps. His skilful driving saw him win the GT4 class ahead of
Christian Chia (40 secs) and Paul Fresidder.
Dilantha who has won the Malaysian Super Series twice is also making
an effort to win the same this year.
At present he is only one point behind the leader with few more races
to be run in the near future.
