War heroes’ information expected

The Past Pupils Association of the Kotte Ananda Sastralaya is gathering information about war heroes and police personnel who were products of Ananda Sastralaya to organize a Ranaviru Upahara Ceremony to pay tribute to them. Association’s joint secretary Janka Boteju said the information should be furnished to principal, Ananda Sastralaya, Kotte or to Channa on 077-3847853 or Upul on 0777-661223 on or before July 10.

Junior Inventor of the Year

The Institution of Engineers, Sri Lanka (IESL) calls for applications from prospective contestants, for the Junior Inventor of the Year (JIY) Competition 2009. The preliminary competitions envisaging creativity and innovation among the school-going fraternity islandwide, will be held at provincial level. These preliminary competitions are scheduled to be held in July and August in Pollonnaruwa, Kandy, Kurunegela, Badulla, Kalutara, Galle and Colombo. The final will be held in Colombo in September.

Electricity interruption in Ratmalana

The power supply to Kalapura, Gemunu Mawatha, Manthreemulla, all by roads from Bakery junction to Attidiya Bridge, Ella Wella, Kahavita Mawatha and Upananda Mawatha in the Ratmalana Regional Electricity Engineer’s Office area, will be interrupted from 8.30 am to 5 pm today due to urgent maintenance works, a Ceylon Electricity Board release stated.

Hora-police

Dawlagala Police arrested three persons including a police constable attached to Wattegama police while travelling in a three-wheeler to sell five water pumps stolen from Watadeniya area.

The water pumps worth Rs. 500,000 were to be sold at Pussellawa, Dawlagala, police said.

Kelaniya University Golden Jubilee

The Alumni Association of the Kelaniya University has organized several activities to commemorate the university’s golden jubilee.

A seminar to review the progress and the future of the university will be held on July 2, 2009 at 3 p.m. at the university premises at Dalugama.

The launching of an academic journal - a collection of articles on different subjects contributed by past students will be held at the seminar.

The launching of a special scholarship program to provide financial assistance to needy children throughout their university education will also be held.

Appointment letters to Education Officers

Education officers who have been promoted to Grade One of the Sri Lanka Education Administrative Service and others who have been appointed as document assistants will receive their appointment letters from Education Minister Susil Premajayantha at a ceremony at the Education Ministry auditorium on June 29 at 9 a.m.

Training program

The Parliamentary Affairs Ministry is organizing a training program and workshop on ‘How to assist Members of Parliament to deliver an efficient and effective services to the Public’ for personal staff of the Members of Parliament representing the Kurunegala and Puttalam districts.

The training program will be held on July 1 and 2 at 8.30 a.m. at North Western Training Center, Wariyapola under the patronage of Parliamentary Affairs Minister M.H. Mohamed.

The Examination Department will distribute past paper books with regard to the Grade Five Scholarship Examination and the GCE Advanced Level Examination among the displaced children in Vavuniya on July 1, 2009.

N’Eliya takes precautions against dengue

The Nuwara Eliya Municipal Council has taken all measures against any possible spreading of dengue fever within the city limits and other areas with the help of social and other voluntary bodies.

Public Health Officers attached to the Municipal Council has conducted a series of awareness programs within the city and its suburbs.
