New Mahanayaka Thera felicitated at Temple Trees
Most. Ven. Ambewela Pannasara, newly appointed Mahanayaka Thera of
the Uva Syamawansika Maha Nikaya was felicitated at a ceremony held at
Temple Trees under the patronage of President Mahinda Rajapaksa on
Thursday afternoon.

The President after offering Prasada pooja to the prelate presented
him with a special memento.
The Most. Ven. Pannasara Mahanayaka Thera in an anusasana recalled
the Maurya Era in Indian history and said Emperor Asoka after concluding
the Kalinga war established a righteous society by undertaking Dhamma
missions and came to be known as Deepa Chakravarti.
Similarly President Mahinda Rajapaksa too reunited the country and
started a Dharmayatra mission after launching a Mathata Thitha program
and as such the conferment of the Sri Rohana Jana Ranjana and 'Vishwakeerthi
Trisihaladeeshwara Sri Lankadeepa Chakravarti' titles on the President
was a most fitting tribute.
The Most Ven. Pannasara Mahanayaka Thera also handed over a cheque
for Rs. 100,000 to the President as a donation towards the Northern
development program.
The Mahanayaka Thera along with Ven. Prof. Bellanwila Wimalaratana
Thera and other members of the Maha Sangha chanted Seth Pirith at the
Sri Jayasri Maha Bodhi at Temple Trees and invoked blessings on the
President, war heroes and the country.
Ven. Prof. Kumburugamuwe Vajira Thera, Ven. Dewalegama Medhanandana
Nayaka Thera. Ven. Katugastota Uparatana Chief Sanghanayaka Thera of
North America, Speaker W.J.M. Lokubandara and Ministers Gamini Lokuge,
S.M. Chandrasena and Pandu Bandaranayake were also present. |
