A/Ls from August 11

The GCE Advanced Level Examination this year starts on August 11 with 240,000 candidates sitting the examination that would go on till September 5, at more than 2000 examination centres throughout the island excluding Kilinochchi and Mullaitivu districts, Commissioner General of Examinations Anura Edirisinghe told the Daily News.

Around 70,000 teachers and other officers would be involved in conducting the A/L examination .as invigilators at the examination centres. Examinations Department officials will recruit 12,000 teachers including university lecturers to mark answer scripts, he said.

Candidates are advised to bring their National Identity Cards or valid passports to establish their identity while other identity cards will not be accepted, he said. He said 1,000 candidates from the IDP villages of the North were also among the candidates.

The grade 5 scholarship examination will be held on August 23 with 300,000 candidates sitting for it, the Commissioner General said.
