Exhibition to mark Walawe anniversary

The National Design Centre in collaboration with the Walawe Heritage, Education Authorities and the Ministry of Rural Industries and Employment Promotion is organizing an exhibition of handicrafts and other exhibits made by school children of the Monaragala and Hambantota districts in connection with the 50th anniversary of commissioning the Chandrikawewa irrigation project Embilipitiya and the D.A. Rajapaksa commemoration events being held currently.

The handicraft exhibition will be held at the Mahaweli Grounds Angunakolapelessa from June 30 with the participation of schools of Hambantota, Angunakolapelessa and Sevenegala Divisions with 600 students from 30 selected schools taking part he National Design Centre said in a press release.

The handicraft exhibition was aimed at providing school children with the opportunity to make use of raw material that are discarded as waste and to bring out new creations on guidelines provided by the research and development division of the National Design Centre, the release said.
