Kumari responsible for only record on final day

The only highlight on the final day of the 40th John Tarbat National
Junior Athletic Championship was setting of a new record for the under
15 girls Putt Shot by C. G. K. Kumari of Galewala Central. Kumari heaved
the iron ball to a distance of 8.97 m to erase the existing record 8.50
m set by Punsara Jayalath, Musaeus College Colombo last year.
The three days of competition saw a total of seven records
established, six field events and one track event.
The meet was participated by nearly 2,000 boys and girls competitors
from all parts of the island in four different age categories u-12, 13,
14 and 15.
A colourful ceremony saw the end of the championship at Albert F.
Pieris stadium with Public Estate Management and Development Minister
Milroy Fernando.
The meet was organised and conducted by Sri Lanka Schools Athletic
Association and was sponsored by ‘Milo’ distributors Nestle Lanka Ltd.
Records set up during the last two days:
Under 14 boys discus: M. T. D. Perera (Lyceum Intl. School, Wattala).
Under 14 discus girls: Rashmi Pathirage (Royal Intl. School).
Under 14 javelin boys: Chamika Karunaratne (Royal College, Colombo).
Under 12 80m boys: D. Weerasinghe (St. Peter’s College, Colombo)
