China assures assistance to Sri Lanka

China is always prepared to assist Sri Lanka which is liberated from the terrorists, to enter the mainstream of development in all spheres, said People's Republic of China Ambassador Yang Xiuping.

The Ambassador who called on Plantation Industries Minister D. M. Jayaratne at his office recently, said the time has come to enhance the long-standing social ,economic, cultural and political goodwill between the two countries.

She assured that she would make all arrangements to bring China's support to Sri Lanka to develop the plantation sector.

Briefing about the present situation of the Sri Lanka tea industry, Minister Jayaratne said Sri Lanka tea could maintain a good price rate in the world market despite the global economic recession. Jayaratne said the Sri Lankan Government has decided to develop the plantation sector specially in the North by cultivating coconut under the Uthuru Vasanthaya development drive.
