Menikdiwela Central in stunning win

Little Known Menikdiwela Central College, from the village of Yatinuwara created a major surprise when they beat the more fancied Sri Sumangala College, Kandy 4- 0 in their Kandy Schools Boys under 15 hockey tournament organised by the Kandy District Schools Hockey Association and played at the University grounds, Peradeniya. At half time there was no scoring.

The Menikdiwela stickers after a subdued first half opened up the flood gates of scoring by four goals after the turnaround to show in no uncertain terms that their win was no fluke but purely through performance of high quality hockey which bamboozled their opponents. Sounding the boards for Menikdiwela Central College were centre forward Shashi Jayasinghe (2), centre half D.T.D.N. Malaka and left extreme N.G.m. Kumara.

Kelum Shanthasiri and G.G. Dharmaratne umpired

In another match of the same tournament Trinity College scored a 2-0 win over Dharmaraja College 'B' at the University grounds, Peradeniya. At half time Trinity led 1-0.

Centre forward Hakeem Shah and S. Mayuran scored a goal each for Trinity College. Senthil Kumar and Nadarajah Paraneetharan umpired.
