Pro-Tamil protest at World Twenty20
Pro-Tamil supporters staged a protest outside Trent Bridge here on
Monday where Sri Lanka were playing Australia in the World Twenty20
championship.
Police said around 70 people were involved in the demonstration while
Sky News earlier reported that the Sri Lanka team had been delayed
entering the ground because of the protest.
"We are currently facilitating a lawful protest, which is being
carried out in a peaceful manner," said Nottinghamshire police chief
inspector Steve Haylett. The tournament is Sri Lanka's first
international team assignment since March when their bus came under
attack in Lahore where they were playing a Test series.
The terror assault left eight Pakistanis dead and several members of
the team injured.
