Lanka Sasanarakshaka Buddhist Association honours a Christian for
composing music for Buddhist songs.
Music artiste Manoj Peiris J.P. was confined the title Deshamamaka
Visharadha Fine Arts & Deshabandu by the Supreme Sangha Sabha of the
Three Nikayas United Bhikku Mandalaya and the Association for Lanka
Buddhist Sasanarakshaka Front.
Visharadha Manoj Peiris JP composed the music for the song ‘Father of
the Land of Lanka and Soldier Comrade!’ written by Ven. Rambukkana
Siddhartha sung by Kalasoori Sanath Nandasiri released on the B’day of
His Excellency President Mahinda Rajapaksa.
Visharadha Manoj Peiris is director of the Buddhist Channel and
contributed for music direction of music for Buddhist programs. He has
undertaken direction of music in 42 countries including USA, Australia,
Sweden and Germany. He was first honoured for music direction by the
National Youth Council in 1985.
Shimla Mega Market
The National Crafts Council (NCC) will take part in the ‘Shimla Mega
Market’, India, which will be held from June 12 to 15.
The aim of this event is to allocate a market for local handmade
items in the international arena. Masks, bathik garments, rush and reed
creations, wood carvings and many more exquisite handmade products will
be showcased at the stalls which will be visited by a large number of
national and international handcraft producers, exporters and customers.
The Chairman of NCC, Buddhi Keerthisena stated that this will be open
doors for many skilled individuals to cater their creations to many
countries around the globe.

Damyanathi Jayakody’s children’s story book “Nalakaraya” will be
launched at Dayawansa Jayakody Book Exhibition Hall, Colombo 10, June 9.
The author has written several other books such as Ape Buduhamuduruvo,
Ape Jathika Kodiye Sinha Nadaya, The Jewel of the Universe, Budu Dahamai
Maha Muhudai Kelanitissa Rajjuruvoi, Deviyo Ehi Vediyaha, and Uthum
Thunuruvana Ekama Pihitai. Nalakaraya is based on the popular folk tale
“Piped Piper.”
Nalakaraya is a Dayawansa Jayakody publication.
Gayan Chanuka Vidanapathirana’s 45th book on Buddhism Seruvila
Mangala Maha Chaithya Varnanava will be launched at Vidyodaya Pirivena,
Maligakanda, Colombo on June 12 at 2.30 p.m.
The book launching ceremony will be held with the participation of
Ven. Aggamaha Panditha Weligama Sri Gnanarathana Mahanayaka Thera, Ven.
Seruvila Saranakiththi Nayake Thera, Ven. Balangoda Sobhitha Thera, Ven.
Koppakande Sri Sumanathissa Nayaka Thera.
Seruvila Mangala Maha Chaithya Varnanava is a Dayawansa Jayakody
