Gibbs steers South Africa past Sri Lanka
Herschelle Gibbs top-scored with 48 to steer South Africa to a
six-wicket win over Sri Lanka in their World Twenty20 warm-up at Lord’s
on Wednesday.
Sri Lanka had struggled to 109-9 after being reduced to 44 for 7 at
one stage with Angelo Mathews (28) and Nuwan Kulasekera (24) rallying in
the closing over with valuable late runs.
Dale Steyn, who removed both openers Tillakaratne Dilshan and Sanath
Jayasuriya, Jacques Kallis and Johan Botha all collected two wickets
each.
South Africa reached their target with five balls to spare thanks to
Gibbs and AB de Villiers (32) who put on 70 for the third wicket.
Sri Lanka were let down by poor fielding with Gibbs dropped twice.
Seelaar sets up Dutch win
Left-arm spinner Pieter Seelaar took three wickets as the Netherlands
beat Scotland by seven wickets in their ICC World Twenty20 warm-up match
at the Oval here on Wednesday.
Seelaar, who took two wickets in two balls, finished with figures of
three for 25 from his four overs as Scotland were held to 128 for nine.
Alexei Kervezee then made 62, his a run-a-ball fifty featuring a six
and five fours, as the Dutch reached their victory target of 129.
Together with former Sussex batsman Bas Zuiderent (44) he put on 105
for the second wicket as they took the Netherlands from six for one to
111 for two before, with 18 runs needed off 25 balls, he was caught and
bowled by Scotland off-spinner Majid Haq.
With four runs needed off the last over, Zuiderent holed out but a
boundary from Daan van Bunge saw the Dutch home with three balls to
spare.
This win gave the Netherlands a victory over Celtic opposition
following their dramatic eliminator loss to Ireland at Lord’s on Monday.
Scotland, who travelled down overnight from Nottingham, where they lost
by six wickets to hosts England on Tuesday, saw Calum Macleod strike
with the third legitimate ball of the innings to remove Darron Reekers.
Earlier, Dutch pace bowler Dirk Nannes, who plays for English county
side Middlesex, sent down 16 balls that were not scored off by Scotland.
Kyle Coetzer top-scored with 39 before he was stumped by Netherlands
captain and wicket-keeper Jeroen Smits off Seelaar.
