Indices drop

The indices at the Colombo Stock Exchange ended the day yesterday flat with much of the turnover accounted for by retail participation.

The ASPI ended the day at 2,183 while the MPI ended the day at 2,472. Turnover for the day amounted to Rs 258 million with Distilleries Company (Turnover Rs 55 million, share gained Rs 2.00 to close at Rs 94.00) and CIC voting shares (Turnover of Rs 52 million, share closed up Rs 1.75 to Rs 49.75) accounting for much of the turnover.

John Keells Holdings, NDB Bank and Commercial Bank continued to see interest but on a lower scale. JKH saw Rs 18 million of business with the share closing down 25 cents to Rs 111.00. NDB Bank gained Rs 1.00 to close at Rs 117 on turnover of Rs 10 million and Commercial Bank also saw turnover of Rs 10 million while the share lost 50 cents to close at Rs 123.25.
