New transport zone for Pettah

Transport Minister Dullas Alahapperuma has taken steps to transform the areas covering Fort Railway Station, Pettah Bus Stand and Bastian Mawatha Private Bus Stand as a Transport Zone.

Accordingly, the management of the Bastian Mawatha Bus Stand will be taken over by the National Transport Commission and all the long distance bus services commencing from Colombo will begin from this bus stand.

This steps will solve the longstanding problem faced by bus commuters who had to go two places to catch buses. This new scheme will be implemented shortly, Transport Minister Dullas Alahapperuma said.

Meanwhile Pettah Bus Stand has been fully refurbished and will be commissioned within the next four weeks. Bastian Mawatha Bus Stand too will be modernised under a longterm project.

The proposed Transport Zone will include all the modern facilities and this will turn a new page in the transport sector of the country, the Minister said.
