National Victory Parade on Wednesday
Elaborate arrangements are being made to hold the National Victory
Parade at Galle Face Green scheduled for Wednesday (June 3) on a grand
scale.
President Mahinda Rajapaksa will take the salute at the national
victory parade. Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa, Security Forces
Commanders, the IGP and Civil Defence Force Director General, Ministers,
Members of the diplomatic corp and other distinguished guests and troops
who took part in the battle to vanquish LTTE terror will participate in
the celebrations.
Security Forces’ personnel along with their commanding officers,
engaged in direct operations in the recently concluded ‘humanitarian
operations’ in the North and East are expected to take part in this
special parade. The Military Commanders are expected to present a
special memorandum to the President during the occasion, to mark the
nation’s victory over terrorism.
During the historic event, weapons seized from the LTTE, which were
used by them to cause mass destruction during the last three decades,
too would be on display.
The ‘National Victory Parade’ will also feature several traditional
cultural events with more than 4,000 artistes in attendance, the
Government Information Department said. |
