Troops recover decomposed bodies, weapons

The Security Forces after liberating entire North from the LTTE clutches engaged in search and mopping up operations recovered LTTE decomposed bodies and cache of arms and weapons in Mullaitivu jungles on Tuesday.

Military spokesman Brigadier Udaya Nanayakkara said troops of the 53 Division on search operations in Vellaimullivaikkal and Puthukudiyiruppu west have recovered a haul of arms and ammunition including four decomposed bodies of the Tiger cadres.

Troops recovered 27 T56 riffles, five T81 riffles, a VIP weapon, two FNC weapons, an unidentified weapon, an improvised weapon, three 9mm pistols, two 9mm magazines, a sniper weapon, five communication sets, a body part of MPMG weapon, a suicide jacket, 17 hand grenades, a global positioning system, 18 of 9mm ammunition, a satellite phone, a hand phone, a cyanide capsule, a telephone notebook, three dog tags, a map of Iranamadu, six claymore mines, 14 RPG bombs, 67 IEDs two 60mm mortar bipods, 117 12.7mm ammunition, a 120mm mortar bomb, a 81mm mortar base plate, two 12.7mm ammunition boxes, five 81mm mortar bomb, nine 81mm mortar fuses, 27 of 60mm mortar bombs, 13 Arul bombs, 350 cartridges, 8kg C4 explosives, four LTTE uniforms and four LTTE caps.

Meanwhile, troops of the 57 division engaged in search operations in Vaddakachchi and Vishvamadukulam have recovered a 60mm mortar bomb, five LMG drums, 10 LMG returning springs, 32 sea mine casings, 21 claymore mines, two suicide jackets, two Banglore torpedoes and an outboard motor.

Troops of the 58 division launching search operations in Karayanmullivaikkal uncovered a cache of arms on Tuesday.

That included 17 T56 assault riffles, 325 RPG bombs, 40 122mm projectiles, 10 I-com sets, three base station sets, parts of peddle guns, 4,315 of T56 ammunition, GMPG 232,500 ammunition, 52,500 5.56 tracer ammunition, 2,275 of 0.38 special ammunition, 900 M-35 ammunition, three T56 magazines, 210 12.7mm ammunition, 100m detonator cords, 17 82mm white phosphorons bombs and 28 peddle gun ammunition.
