Sri Lankans in Israel celebrate Vesak
The Sri Lankan expatriate community in Israel organized Vesak
celebrations under the patronage of the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Tel
Aviv.
The main Vesak program of "Observance of Sil" was conducted at Beit
Dani Hall in Tel Aviv which was attended by over 1,000 Sri Lankans and
other religious dignitaries in Israel.
The Embassy invited Ven. Ahangama Rathanasiri Maha Thera, Chief
Sanganayake, Canada and Ven. Prof. Wijayarajapura Seelwansa Maha Thera
Chief Sanganayake, Europe and Head of Buddhist Philosophy and
Contemporary Religion, Vienna University to conduct the religious
observances.
A Dhamma discussion followed by a Dhana was arranged at the official
residence by Ambassador, W.M. Senevirathna. The visiting Sri Lankan
monks and Ven. Ofer Adi, an Israeli monk of the Vipassana Meditation
Centre in Tel Aviv conducted the Dhamma discussion. Ambassadors from
Nepal, Myanmar, Thailand, India, Japan etc., also attended along with
leading representatives from Buddhist meditation centers in Israel.
