Wimal further restrained
Sandasen MARASINGHE
Colombo Commercial High Court Judge Gamini Amarasekara yesterday
issued an interim injunction preventing National Freedom Front Leader
Wimal Weerawansa from publishing and distributing his book Netta
Venuwata Etta.
The court issued the order after Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna leader
Somawansa Amarasinghe and its Secretary Tilvin Silva filed two separate
cases before the Commercial High Court alleging that the Intellectual
Property Act has been violated by the act of publishing the book Netta
Venuwata Etta. The two plaintiffs filing the plaint cited Wimal
Weerawansa as the defendant. The plaintiffs stated before the Court that
the book by Wimal Weerawansa was nothing but JVP political opinion that
was submitted before the JVP Central Committee. The book had no
classical or aesthetic value. So this publication is a violation of
economic rights as well, they said.
The Court earlier had issued an enjoining order restraining the
publishing of this book and Court yesterday issued the interim order.
The case was put off for July 9.
