National Victory Parade on June 3

The nation's long-awaited victory over terrorism will be celebrated
in grand style on June 3, 2009 in a special parade at Galle Face Green
under the patronage of President Mahinda Rajapaksa, Defence Secretary
Gotabhaya Rajapaksa, Security Forces commanders, the IGP and troops who
took part in the battle to vanquish LTTE terror, too would take part.
Security Forces personnel along with their commanding officers,
engaged in direct operations in the recently concluded 'humanitarian
operations' in the North and East is expected to take part in a special
military parade.
According to the Government Information Department, the Military
Commanders are expected to present a special memorandum to the President
during the occasion, to mark the nation's victory over terrorism.
During the historic event, weapons seized from the LTTE, which were
used by them to cause mass destruction during the last three decades,
too would be on display.
The 'National Victory Parade' will also feature several traditional
cultural events with more than 4,000 artistes in attendance, the
Government Information Department said.
