Kenya’s Cheruiyot wins Ottawa Marathon
Kenyan David Cheruiyot won the Ottawa Marathon on Sunday, outracing
Ethiopia’s Wegayehu Girma down the stretch to capture a six-second
victory in Canada’s capital.
Cheruiyot, 39, won in 2 hrs 13 mins 23 secs with Girma, 20, second
and Morocco’s Ahmed Baday third in 2:13:56. In the women’s race,
Morocco’s Asmae Leghzaoui lowered her course record by 63 seconds to win
in 2:27:41 with Canada’s Lioudmila Kortchaguina, a four-time winner of
the race, second in 2:32:10 and Kenya’s Irene Jerotich Kosgei third in
2:34:28.
