Relief for IDPs: Special meeting in Vavuniya

Resettlement and Disaster Relief Services Minister Rishard Bathuitheen held a special meeting in Vavuniya to review the progress and the present position of the relief services being provided to the IDPs and to improve the general conditions, a Ministry spokesperson told Daily News yesterday (25).

The Minister appointed committees for the five welfare villages Kadirgamar, Ponnambalam

Ramanathan, Arunachalam, Ananda Coomaraswamy and Zone 4. In addition civil administration among IDPs had been established and Grama Niladharis also appointed to attend the needs of the IDPs in welfare villages, the spokesperson said.


Nenaguna Wadawamu program

The third stage of ‘Nenaguna Wadawamu’ Grade 5 scholarship seminar program organised by the Tharunyata Hetak organisation under the concept of its president Namal Rajapaksa will be held in the Kandy district on May 28 at the following venues from 8.15 to 3.30 p.m. - Gampola Panwilathenna Maha Vidyalaya and Gampola Wickramabahu National School.


Suspects can surrender to Police station, SF camp

The Police in a statement said yesterday that it had being brought to their notice, that suspects who are believed to have engaged in various terrorist activities were surrendering with the help of a third party at a variety of locations.

The statement issued by Police Spokesman SSP Ranjith Gunasekera articulating the official position said, that such suspects should only surrender themselves to the nearest Police Station or Security Forces Camp.


Buddhist talk

Dr. D. V. J. Harischandra will deliver a public Buddhist talk in English on ‘The place of Jathaka Stories in Psychiatric Treatment’ at a meeting of the Servants of the Buddha Society on Saturday, May 30 at 4.30 p.m. at the Maithri Hall, Lauries Road, Bambalapitiya.


Poson decoration competition

A Poson decorations competition organised by Maharagama Young Buddhists Association will be held from June 7th to 10th to mark Poson 2009.

Two competitions will be held for under 12 children and adults.

Maharagama Y.M.B.A. invites applications from the public for the competition.

Anniversary

The 60th anniversary celebrations of the Sri Pemarathana Dhaham School of Eyanporuwe Gangathilake Temple, Madiwela, Kotte will be held on May 31 at 2.30 p.m. at the Temple premises.

Urban and Sacred Area Development Minister Dinesh Gunawardena will be the chief guest.


Convocation

A convocation for external graduates organised by the Peradeniya University for the first time will be held at the BMICH Colombo on May 26 at 8.30 a.m. Higher Education Minister Prof Viswa Warnapala will be the chief guest.
