Sri Lanka Railways has to collect Rs.525 million from various
Government Departments for warrants issued to public servants. A Sri
Lanka Railway’s Spokesman told the Daily News a number of Departments
have defaulted on payments to the tune of Rs.525 million to the Sri
Lanka Railways for warrants given over the last 10 years.
“Therefore, we have taken a policy decision to suspend the issuing of
new warrants for public servants who have not settled the balance
payments,” he said.
He said public servants are provided with warrants on credit and
these Departments are bound to make the payments to the Railway
Department.
“The Railway Department has already informed the defaulted
Departments to settle their balance payments with immediate effect,”he
said. The Education Department is the biggest defaulter and it has to
settle a balance payment of Rs.225 million to the Sri Lanka Railways. |
