Shafi Jainudeen-chief guest at 'Bradby' First Leg

Former Trinity College, Kandy Sports Club, Havelocks Sports Club and
Sri Lanka Fall back Shafi Jainudeen will be the Chief Guest at the first
leg of the 65th Bradby Shield encounter between Trinity College and
Royal College which will be played at the Bogambara Stadium in Kandy on
May 30 (Saturday) at 4.45 p.m.
Shafi Jainudeen is one of the finest ruggerites to come out of the
portals of Trinity College who are the thoroughbreds of the local rugby
scene and famous for their run and pass game. Shafi Jainudeen was more
than a full back and often joined the three quarters to form the overlap
which often ended in tries. He was also a place kicker with dead
accuracy and a drop goal expert.
Shafi Jainudeen played for Trinity College for four years and
captained it in 1969 and that year they won the Bradby Shield by the
comfortable aggregate of 17-3. Trinity won the first leg 8-0 and
improved on their aggregate winning the second leg 9-3.
Shafi Jainudeen played for Kandy SC as a schoolboy.
