Russell Creek CC win two matches

Here in Sri Lanka on a two-week stay, is a group of Australians numbering 21 from the Russell's Creek Cricket Club, Warrenbool, Victoria. The purpose of their visit is two-fold in that they will be engaged in 3 forty over cricket matches, visit places of cultural interest to take in as well the scenic splendour of the country.

The hotel accommodation and travel within the island is being handled by Aitken Spence Travels Ltd. The tour has become a reality through the efforts of former Peterite and CCC cricketer, Jayaweera Bandara. Bandara who plays for this club in Victoria, is a level II coach and an executive chef cum manager by profession. Russell's Creek CC met and defeated a CCC eleven on Thursday May 14 at the CCC grounds. And on Sunday May 17 beat the Old Peterites at the College grounds.

The invitation for Russell Creek CC to visit Sri Lanka was extended by Nihal Lewke VP, Anuradhapura CC.

Scores of the first match vs CCC played at the CCC grounds.

CCC batting first scored 224 for 9 wickets in 40 overs. Top scorers Dhanuka Pathirana 73, Indunil Anthony 72. Bowling Ben Boyd 3 for 30, Nathan Divall 3 for 72.

Russels Cricket Club 149 all out in 35 overs. Top scorers Jayaweera Bandara 52. Bowling: Neranjan Dabare 3 for 35, Andy Solomons 2 for 20, D. Pathirana 2 for 20.

Old Peterites SC vs Russels CC.

Russels Cricket Club 178 for 9 wickets in 30 overs (Kyle Humphrey 35, Dhanuka Pathirana 34, Richard McKeller 34. Bowling: Neranjan Dabare 2 for 20, Malintha Warnapura 2 for 15). Old Peterites SC 167 all out in 27.5 overs (Samudda Gallage 69, Malin Silva 46. Bowling: Ben Boyd 3 for 34, Dhanuka Pathirana 3 for 25).

Russels Cricket Club Victoria won by 11 runs.
