Anandians honoured

The old Anandians Mass Media Circle has paid tribute to all sons of Ananda College, Colombo who have assisted in eliminating LTTE terrorism and reuniting the country.

The Mass Media Circle in a press release signed by its President Chandana Tillekeratne said four of the six heroes who led the operations to defeat terrorism are products of Ananda College.

They are Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa, Army Commander General Sarath Fonseka, Navy Commander Admiral Wasantha Karannagoda, and Civil Defence Force Director General Rear Admiral Sarath Weerasekera.

Apart from them others who led the war front including 57 brigade Commander Maj. Gen. Jagath Dias, 53rd Brigade Commander Maj. Gen. Kamal Gunaratne, 55th Brigade Commander Brig. Wagi Gallage and 59th Brigade Commander Brig. Prasanna Silva are also products of Ananda.

Moreover Lt. Vaas Gunawardena who was among the 13 soldiers killed by terrorist in Jaffna on July 24, 1983 was an old Anandian.

The names of all Old Anandian war heroes who have sacrificed their lives in defence of the nation are inscribed in the war memorial erected at school premises.

The Mass Media Circle while saluting all these heroes would thank all media institutions and media personnel who reported the action in the war front to the masses.
