'Prudent policies strengthen economy'

The world economic crisis is effecting our economy too. But because of the correct economic policies of our Government we are managing our economy successfully said Power and Energy Minister W.D.J. Seneviratne at a meeting of the Development Projects Peoplisation Ceremony at Rakwana.

The Minister also said that economies of leading countries like the US, England and other European countries are facing severe economic problems and many leading companies and financial institutions have collapsed.

Thousands of workers have lost their jobs as this is the biggest crisis after the great depression of the 1930s. We too have to face problems as foreign employment opportunities are shrinking and our export products like tea and rubber are also effected. But prudent economic policies and financial assistance from the IMF, Iraq and China have helped us to manage the economy successfully.

The humanitarian operations now being carried out in the North and East and the development activities throughout the country will be maintained.
