‘UNF government gave complete freedom to terrorists’

A prideful nation which has withstood a number of challenges with courage and perseverance was put into disrepute by the UNP during their 2 1\2 years in power, said Media and Information Minister Anura Priyadarshana Yapa.

“Our forefathers have never betrayed the country to terrorists. The UNF Government gave complete freedom to the terrorists to do what it wanted through the Ceasefire Agreement which was signed by UNP leader Ranil Wickremesinghe and LTTE leader Velupillai Prabhakaran.

“No country in the world has given an equal status to a terrorist outfit. The LTTE acquired hi-tech weapons and ammunitions when the CFA is in force, he said.

The Minister said the LTTE carried out a number of attacks on intelligence officials in the Colombo city while the Ceasefire Agreement was effective. The public on the other hand were convinced that the LTTE is invincible. “The LTTE had defacto control over the North and East.

Two Governments were in operation within the territorial limits of Sri Lanka during the UNF regime. Sri Lanka has turned a new chapter in the world history by eradicating one of the most ruthless terrorist outfits in the world, he said.
