‘The Great Rescue Mission’

Congratulations to the Sri Lankan Defence Forces under the leadership of the President on this tumultuous victory.

This victory gives the Government the greatest opportunity to erase

decades of hatred and violence and start afresh. The country needs peace and development.

The President should use this opportunity to demonstrate Statesmanship and be magnanimous. It would be good for him to announce a special package for the Tamils, including a financial package for the North East and accordingly a special place for Tamils in the country.

India adopted a three language formula and quelled the language problem for good 50 years back. Let not this victory and sacrifice of thousands of precious lives be wasted in empty rhetoric.

We don’t want any more terrorists (of any hues).
