Sri Lanka to reopen Embassy in Baghdad
The Sri Lankan President and the Iraqi Vice President agreed that Sri
Lanka would soon reopen its Embassy in Baghdad headed by an Ambassador
and that the diplomatic representation of Iraq in Colombo would be
upgraded to Ambassadorial level.
The Iraqi Vice President Adil Abd Al-Mahadi complimented the
President on the success achieved in defeating terrorism in Sri Lanka
and the measures taken to rescue the civilians held captive by the LTTE
when he met the President in Jordan.
President Rajapaksa welcomed the recent positive developments in Iraq
which has led to the consolidation of democracy and triggering economic
growth and prosperity. The Iraq Vice President assured President
Rajapaksa that the Iraqi Government would take all possible measures to
facilitate enhanced market access for Sri Lankan tea and to attract Sri
Lankan labour including in specialized fields with the ongoing economic
drive in Iraq opening up new employment opportunities. |
