All should rally round Govt to uplift IDPs’ living standards - Mahanayaka Thera

People of all communities can now enjoy the benefits of President Mahinda Rajapaksa’s genuine efforts to free the country of terrorism following the total defeat of the LTTE terrorist outfit said the Most Ven. Udugama Sri Buddharakkhita Mahanayaka Thera of the Asgiriya Chapter commenting on the reunification of the country under one flag by the heroic Security Forces on Sunday.

The terrorist problem would not have dragged on so long if previous leaders of this country too had the same commitment like the President, he said.

The prelate made these comments when a delegation of the Joint Council of Free Media Organisations (Ekabhadda Nidahas Madya Sandanaya) led by its President Ajith Jayasundara and Vice President Sujeewa Mannage called on him at the Asgiriya Viharaya to receive his blessings.

Ven. Buddharakkhita Mahanayaka Thera said the heroic Security Forces have today succeeded in wiping out terrorism which had been a social parasite for almost 3 decades.

It is only after President Rajapaksa assumed office that they received proper leadership and guidance to accomplish this task.

Whatever detractors may say the full credit for ending the terrorist menace should go to the President, Defence Secretary and the war heroes including Security Forces Chiefs and the IGP.

The President should be commended for steadfastly pursuing the final goal of wiping out terrorism without succumbing to foreign pressure.

The Prelate said the Government should not remain complacent after defeating terrorism.

It should take all precautions to ensure that terrorism does not raise its head again with the help of the strong Tamil diaspora abroad.

He said the people should now eschew petty differences and rally round the Government to uplift the living conditions of the displaced civilians.
