Muthu had previously penned three books of poetry: 'Innocence
Unending' (1997) which she completed while still in her teens, 'There
are no more rainbows' (1998), a collection based on the civil conflict
in the country and 'Lal Gulab Zindabad' (2005), a series of poems
written in the memory of the late Prime Minister of India Rajiv Gandhi.
She had shown early signs of being a multi faceted artiste in various
streams in the field of communication and entertainment- from music,
teaching performing arts, news reporting to compering on television.
Speaking during the event Dr. Sarath Amunugama said that Muthu had
taken a daring task on addressing a theme which many would find
interesting. He related that the title itself catches the eye and rouses
curiosity.
"The intensity of Muthu's poetry reminds me of the Radha-Krishna love
poetry in Hindu texts for a variety of emotions such as love, rejection,
sorrow and heartbreak are aroused in the lines. It signifies that love
is not only a personal and physical aspect but has a metaphysical value
as well," he said while branding the text as an item for 'good and
useful reading'.
Muthu's anthology of poetry, comprising 30 poems, is a Sarasavi
Publication. Dr. Sarath Chandrajeewa's paintings occupy each of Muthu's
poems and lures the readers to feast their eyes upon the pages of
tantalizing verses colourful sketches.
The book is striking also for its literal value as well as for its
Matt finished board with stunning illustrations. The 19 cm x 20 cm four
colour stitched book is considered a rare feature in a publication.
The guests were provided with a treat as Harsha Makalanda's soothing
tunes were a part of the event while three poem recitals gave the
audience an idea on what is stored in the book. The event was sponsored
by Sri Lanka Telecom\ Mobitel. |
