S.M. Jiffrey Abdeen Kandy South Group Corr
There was wide rejoicing by the people of Kandy yesterday when the
news spread that the Security Forces had freed all the civilians and
they were on the verge of capturing completely the areas held by the
LTTE. The Kandy town was littered with pieces of paper as there was
large scale lighting of crackers which lasted for more than three hours.
One such place was the landmark of Kandy - the clock tower roundabout
in the heart of Kandy town.
There was such a demand for fire crackers that some of the shops ran
short crackers as yesterday being a Sunday some of the shops were
closed. People danced in the streets and praised the President and the
Security Forces for the steps taken to liberate that part of the country
from the terrorists and free the other parts of the country from fear
and terror of the terrorists and bombers who targeted innocent and
unsuspecting civilians.
People also hoisted the National Flag in their homes. Even the
streets were also full of National Flags.
There were also parading of the streets in motor cycles and
three-wheelers carrying the National Flags underlying the fact that the
sovereignty of the Unitary State has been preserved. |
