Defeat of terrorism greatest achievement by nation

Construction and Engineering Services Minister Dr.Rajitha Senaratne yesterday said the victory achieved by our valiant soldiers in the North is one of the greatest victories achieved by the nation.

Under the great leadership given by President Mahinda Rajapaksa, the terrorism which ruined the country during the past three decades has come to an end.

Minister Senaratne said today the country has reached a very decisive juncture. We have been able to save the country from the clutches of terrorism due to joint efforts by the Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa and the Commanders of three Armed Forces on the directives given by President Rajapaksa.

He said the Government had to fight not only with Prabhakaran but also with some Opposition political parties, NGOs and so called international community. They tried their level best to get a CFA and give oxygen to the LTTE.

Some Western countries tried to invade our country the way they invaded Iraq and propagate the same ideas in our country as well. However, President Rajapaksa as a great leader could bravely faced to all these challenges setting an example to the entire world. Most of the country’s people could realise the huge cry made by the UNP and the JVP on certain issues like cost of living to gain narrow political objectives.

The people decided to undergo any hardship at this juncture due to sincere efforts made by the Government to eradicate terrorism. Now the Government has focused its attention to look after the IDPs who were rescued from the clutches of the LTTE and develop the Northern areas which have been ruined by the LTTE terrorists over the past 30 years. Steps should also be taken to settle the political problems of these people as well.
