Construction Chamber CSR initiative
Having commissioned the refurbished water distribution and
purification system at the Walasmulla Base Hospital, the Chamber of
Construction Industry has now installed a waste water disposal system
which is to be inaugurated by the Minister of Ports and Aviation and
Irrigation and Water Management Chamal Rajapaksa during the last week of
May 2009.
This project was funded by Grand Leon of France in response to a
request made by President Mahinda Rajapaksa when he was the Prime
Minister.
The water distribution and purification system as well as the waste
water disposal system were executed under the supervision of the
Chamber's technical division as a CSR initiative while project
monitoring was carried out by Bioforce Development Institute of France.
Installation of the waste water disposal system which involves laying
of nearly two KM of pipelines, construction of a grease trap, an
equalization tank, an aeration tank, a settling tank, sludge drying beds
and a reed bed was completed in a period of less than four months. The
trainees attached to construction training centres at Thamaduwa and
Madihe, Matara were also mobilized in the construction work thereby
enhancing their scope of training.
The installation of the sewerage and waste water purification and
disposal system will enhance the ground water quality of the area as
well. |
