Kandy SC trounce Army 43-8

Defending Caltex League rugby champions Kandy Sports Club warmed up for the forthcoming inter club rugby season with a facile 43 - 8 win over Sri Lanka Army in a friendly rugby encountrer played at Nittawela. At half time Kandy led 21 - 5.

Kandy SC collected their points from 4 goals, 3 tries. Navy got their points from a try and a penalty.

Gerald Rasiah refereed.

Former Sri Lanka and Kandy SC flanker Iswan Omar speaking on behalf of Kandy SC thanked the Sri Lanka Army for having taken the trouble to travel up to Kandy to play this match. He thanked the Sri Lanka Army Rugby Committee especially Lt. Col. Saliya Udugama, and Brigadier Jupana Jayawardena for making arrangements for this encounter. Kandy Sports Club also confirmed that this will be an annual fixture to herald the rugby season in addition to the tournament matches and perhaps may play for a trophy at a future date with the consent of the Sri Lanka Army.
